Fred Sturm presented the technical portion of the November chapter meeting with an in-depth description and demonstration of a better, more accurate way of traveling hammer shanks. The meeting was recorded for people to peruse at their leisure.
President Matt Crudo called the business meeting to order at 8:07 pm. A total of 18 people attended the technical portion of the meeting, and there were 14 chapter members present for the business meeting.
The October minutes were approved as published in the newsletter. Treasurer Douglas Braak reported a total of $22,617.37 in the chapter bank account.
Nik Proctor showed the chapter examples of the new chapter website. It is a much more complete and versatile website than our previous old and dowdy one. It was universally agreed that Nik did a great job and performed a great service for the chapter. The new website should be ready before the next meeting.
VP Linda Kay reported that the December 7 meeting will be with Johann Krebs. She is exploring the possibility of having Fred Sturm return for another technical in January.
Technical questions were asked and answered. Matt reported that Glen Hart, maker of useful, specialized piano tools, died recently. Many of us used and enjoyed the wide variety of tools he produced.
Good and welfare: Randy Chastain, who had not attended a meeting recently, reported that she has finally made an acceptable recovery from the auto accident she was in a few years ago. We were all relieved to hear it!
Brandon Essex, who was in his workshop during the meeting, reported that he tried out Fred’s shank traveling method during the business meeting, on an action where he had already completed that step. (Or so he thought!) He found several wandering shanks to correct. It was easier to detect side to side motion of the shank without being distracted with the shank moving up and down.
The meeting adjourned at 8:38 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Margie Williams
Secretary
